FNAF throws players into a world that seems familiar, but has a rather creepy vibe to it. Instead of wandering across a large globe, you are confined to a tiny, tight place, viewing gloomy hallways and hoping for time to pass. This constraint makes every sound suspect and extended silences produce a greater stress than any abrupt noise. While players are aware of the animatronics' motions, they cannot know precisely when they will occur. Switching the camera around seems like a gamble, since you could miss an incoming threat. FNAF doesn't always show monsters, letting the mind conjure the most horrifying circumstances.
The cameras are a huge part of what make fnaf. Players must use varied viewing angles to follow the motions of animatronics and forecast their course. But just because you’re watching the cameras doesn’t mean you’re completely secure, since you can only view a section of the building at a time. There are blind places, characters that move positions too rapidly and occasionally the display doesn't provide enough information. This pushes players to remember danger flags, to notice small changes, to acquire good observation skills. Each change the pace of the threats grows more and more harder to manage and each camera roll becomes a stressful moment. |
