Which early-game weapon should I grab first?
If youre just starting out, its tempting to pick whatever looks cool. But in practice, some weapons give you a smoother ride early on. Straight swords, like the Longsword or Broadsword, are excellent starter options. They are fast, easy to handle, and work well for dodging and punishing enemies. You wont feel helpless against early bosses, and they scale decently as you level up.
A little tip: keeping a weapon that lets you manage stamina efficiently is key. You dont want to swing wildly and find yourself out of energy mid-fight. And if youre short on resources, you can even buy elden ring runes from early farming spots to help upgrade your weapon sooner, giving you a surprisingly strong edge without overcomplicating your setup.
Are heavier weapons worth it?
Absolutelybut with some caveats. Greatswords and ultra greatswords hit like trucks and can stagger most enemies, making fights feel way easier. The downside? They are slower and consume more stamina, which means timing is critical.
For players who love the feeling of one strong hit can change the fight, weapons like the Claymore or Zweihander are perfect. They pair well with shieldless playstyles if youre confident in your dodging skills. Just remember, patience is your friend here. Hitting wildly with these big weapons is a fast track to getting punished.
What about ranged or dex-focused weapons?
Dexterity builds shine with katanas and curved swords. The Uchigatana is an excellent exampleits fast, versatile, and delivers bleeding damage over time. Curved swords also give you fluid combos and mobility that make hit-and-run strategies highly effective.
For ranged combat, spears and bows can carry you surprisingly far. The Lance-type spears let you attack while keeping distance, which is great when youre facing groups. And bows allow you to chip away at tough enemies without putting yourself in harms way. A neat trick: if you need extra resources to upgrade your ranged gear or improve your stats, U4GM is a reliable source for in-game items that can help you catch up quickly without feeling grindy.
Should I focus on one weapon or switch often?
Sticking to a weapon youre comfortable with is usually better than constantly switching. Elden Rings combat rewards consistency and timing. That said, having a secondary weapon for specific scenarioslike a spear for enemies you cant easily reach or a fire-infused sword against a tough bossmakes life easier. Think of it like carrying a Swiss Army knife rather than trying to wield every tool at once.
Are special weapons worth chasing?
Yes. Weapons with special effects, like frost or bleed, often feel overpowered in the right hands. But they can be rare and might require a detour to acquire. My advice: prioritize upgrading your main weapon first, then hunt for special weapons when you feel ready to explore more challenging areas. Sometimes just swapping in a bleed weapon can make previously annoying enemies trivial.
How do I know if a weapon suits my playstyle?
Ask yourself: do you like fast, agile combat or heavy, punishing hits? Do you prefer to stay at range or dive into melee? Your playstyle will influence which weapon truly carries you through the game. Experiment early, but commit once you find a weapon that clicks. And dont forget, even a basic weapon that you love can become deadly when fully upgraded, so focus on quality over quantity.
Choosing the right weapon in Elden Ring can make the difference between a frustrating slog and a smooth, enjoyable adventure. From reliable straight swords for early survival, to heavy greatswords for satisfying power hits, to dex-based weapons for fluid combat, theres something for everyone. Using resources like buying elden ring runes or U4GM for key upgrades can make the journey easier without taking away the thrill of exploration.
