Hi everyone! I’ve decided to buy a Pioneer 100-disc mega-changer and am currently choosing between two models—the PD-F958 and the PD-F908. Externally, they look almost identical, and at first glance, their specs also seem very similar. But the difference in model numbers clearly indicates some internal differences. Can anyone with practical experience using this series tell me what the main differences between them are? I’m primarily interested in the technical aspects: do they use different DACs or laser heads?

I’ve heard that the 958 model has a slightly better circuit design or higher-quality components in the audio circuit, but is that really the case? I’m also curious if there are any differences in the disc-feeding mechanism. These devices aren’t new anymore, so drive reliability is the top priority.

To be honest, there isn’t much of a difference; the average user wouldn’t notice it. One of the main differences is that the PD-F958 is a newer, higher-end model designed for the European market. The new model features improved digital signal processing and CD-Text support. I recently looked through the service manual for Pioneer PD-F958, and I wanted to understand in more detail the feature I mentioned above. It turns out that CD-Text displays disc and track titles on the screen, which was actually pretty cool back when it first came out. Sure, nobody’s impressed by that now, but in the last century, it was a digital breakthrough.
